Tourism - EPP 6: Cruise Tourism

Overview
This EPP aims to tap into the Asian cruise market which is growing at a very rapid rate. By leveraging on Malaysia's strategic geographic location, this EPP aims to grow Malaysia's cruise passenger throughput by more than 3x of its existing baseline.
Highlights
  • Foreign cruise vessels providing services between Malaysian forces are now exempt from the Cabotage Policy (March 2012).
  • Formation of the Malaysian Cruise Council (June 2012) co-chaired by the Secretaries General of Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Transport with representatives from private sector industry players and public sector agencies.
  • Six (6) sub task forces have been formed to efficiently address port-specific issues and develop focused recommendations for Port Klang, Penang, Langkawi, Malacca, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.
