EPP 9.3: Commercialising Ekoprena and Pureprena

  • GNI by 2020 (mil)
    RM1,300
  • Projected jobs by 2020
    560

This EPP, led by the Malaysian Rubber Board, has led the industry to stay ahead of regional competition, and pioneered the production of specialty rubber such as epoxidised natural rubber (Ekoprena) and deproteinised natural rubber (Pureprena) to capitalise on consumer preference for natural materials over synthetics.

Highlights

  • In 2014, the Malaysian Rubber Board initiated a trial project on Prasarana Bhd’s Rapid Buses in the Klang Valley using Ekoprena tyres. The success of the road trial, which commenced in 1Q 2015, will look into parameters like fuel consumption and tyre abrasion to provide statistical evidence of Ekoprena performance as tyre material.
