Palm oil is the most-used vegetable oil in food and non-food manufacture, and in renewable fuel production. But the industry in Malaysia faces an obstacle in the form of production efficiency and a scarcity of landbank.
With this in mind, this EPP aims to increase OER to 23% by 2020 through certification of mills under MPOB’s Code of Practice and adherence to grading of crop as part of ensuring only high quality and ripe fresh fruit bunches are accepted and processed at all mills.
- National OER rate improved in 2014, rising to 20.62% from 20.25% in 2013.
- To date, 205 mills have been certified under MPOB’s code of practice and other international certifications. In 2014, about 25 additional mills were certified.
