Palm Oil & Rubber - EPP 2: Improving Fresh Fruit Bunch Yield

Smallholders are key agents for improved national yields and development of the industry.

Accounting about 40% of Malaysia’s oil palm plantations, the government, through EPP, has set up smallholders’ cooperatives to educate and increase awareness on new farming and harvesting technologies as part of an aim to increase the national yield of fresh fruit bunch (FFB) to 26.2 tons per hectare per year.

  • About 1.4 million out of 5.4 million hectares of plantation land owned by smallholder farms and plantation companies in Malaysia achieved compliance with good agricultural practices such as MPOB’s code of practice and the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil in 2014.
  • In 2014, 239,689 hectares were certified, exceeding the target of 220,000 hectares.
