For optimal productivity, the culling and replanting of aged oil palms should commence when trees are 25 years and older.
This EPP, which aims to replant low-yielding old trees in a three year programme until 2013, is now extended to 2014 given the surplus in the replanting budget as land ownership and suitability issues in Sarawak and high palm oil prices deterred replanting initiatives.
- In 2014, smallholders’ land approved for replanting was at 36,482 hectares. Of the area approved, replanting efforts were implemented on 21,313 hectares in the country. These figures exceeded the targets set under this EPP.
