EPP 13: Increase Petrochemical Outputs

  • GNI by 2020 (mil)
  • Projected jobs by 2020

Driven by PETRONAS’s development of the Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) in Johor and Sabah Ammonia Urea (SAMUR) projects, this EPP targets to increase the country’s petrochemicals output to cater to Asia-Pacific’s rising demand for premium specialty chemicals.

  • In 2014, PETRONAS’s Board of Directors approved the final investment decision for the development of the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) comprising Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) and other associated facilities. RAPID is projected to cost about US$16 billion while the associated facilities will involve an investment of US$11 billion.
