This EPP addresses the affordability and quality of Malaysia’s Internet services by creating tiered broadband price plans based on priority of service and usage caps. It also encourages service providers to collaborate and provide Smart Applications that are useful to the public.
Through these measures, this EPP hopes to provide Malaysians with a pricing plan based on their usage patterns, as opposed to a flat-cost structure. Service providers have responded by offering several competitively-priced tiered packages, which are now available in the market.
On its part, the Government, through the Ministry of Communication and Multimedia and MCMC (Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission), will continue to engage with service providers to launch more affordable packages or Pakej Mampu Milik to address the needs of those who cannot afford current broadband subscriptions.
This EPP will also continue to monitor the number of Smart Packages offered by service providers. Guidelines on what is defined as a Smart Package are available on the Malaysian Technical Standards Forum website
. These guidelines will be enhanced to include affordability as a criterion.
- This EPP has achieved its objectives of ensuring the availability of differentiated broadband packages catering to a wide range of customers.
